Spent a week in Cabo after I left Fountain. Had a wonderful time for R&R but do exercise caution.
Be very careful of ordering mixed drinks. There is a genuine and very real problem of tainted alcohol in Mexico right now (30-40% of the entire supply!). We stayed at a 5-star (~$2000/night) - even at this location, someone we traveled with had a sip of a margarita and fell ill instantly. Thankfully Kati and I didn't have one sip the whole trip, but please be careful.
We also heard rumblings about Cabo no longer being safe from the ongoing violence in the rest of the country. Somethign to keep in mind.
If you're like me, you don't want to be caught in a sticky situation without any coverage internationally. Thanks to Kati's dad Jeff's suggestions, I browsed through most of the options - Travel Guard hands down has the best options. Budget $20-50/person so you can rest easy - it's a small price to pay for something that I hope you never have to use.
We spent the week here. Super relaxing. Provides personal transport to and from airport and shuttles to and from other surrounding locations. As is the case w/ most Auberge locations, you get a personal concierge who attends you during your stay - Francisco was excellent to us. The location is on the oceanfront: the beach is not swimmable, but presents a wonderful view that you'll always be looking at - there are whales swimming not too far off everyday. If you aren't restless, you don't even have to leave the property and you'll still have a great time.
Los Cabos (Auberge)
Auberge's sister resort that's only 20 min away (by their free shuttle) from Esperanza. Definitely newer and flashier, but it's really, really well done. Felt smaller than Esperanza, but more "modern." It's one of the flagship Auberge properties and their effort paid off.
This is Esperanza's poolside restaurant with a beachfront view. I was wary at first, but I was amazed - I loved it so much that I went back for a meal at least once a day. I had every single one of their tacos (fish, baja shrimp, duck, etc). Their ribeye tacos were some of the best I've ever had (besting any I've had in the Mission, SF).
COMAL, named after the South American griddle, is situated at the forefront of the Los Cabos Auberge resort. This one surpassed my expectations - I enjoyed the other Auberge restaurants at Calistoga Ranch and Auberge du Soleil in Napa, but not as much as this. The fish was fresh, the flavors excellent, and the atmosphere is incredible. Super friendly service.
I didn't get a chance to visit this place. They have a few locations, but apparently the one in downtown San Lucas is incredible. It's a favorite for locals (heard it from multiple people), travelers, and even Lady Gaga, apparently after a quick online search.
Rustic. Apparently has incredible fruit and not as expensive as the more well-known options around Cabo. Came recommended from several locals.
